How to get the most out of Book Depot’s Website

With over 50,000 great titles to choose from, it may be daunting for you to navigate and find the products you’re looking for if you’re unfamiliar with our website. Throughout the years, we have been refining our website to make our customers’ buying experience as easy and efficient as possible. Read on to discover how you can get the most out of our website by leveraging its features to their full potential.

Browsing & Refining Our Website

You’ll always want to check out our homepage each time you visit to see all of our current promotions and product that we’re highlighting. We change this up on a regular basis and typically showcase product that coincides with an upcoming holiday. For any holidays, featured product lists will be released at least one month prior to the holiday date.

We regularly run promotions on a wide variety of products. To find out all the details, select the Promotions tab in the main navigation bar. We’ll let you know when the sales start and end, the discount amount, and any minimum purchase quantities. Once you’ve read the details, you can follow the link to view the titles that are on sale.

Our massive catalog can be overwhelming to sift through, but with the right tools you can refine based on your interests very quickly. To navigate to a category, select the Categories tab in the main navigation menu and choose your desired category. You will then be shown all of the product within that category. Use the menu on the left-hand side to refine further: by subject, author, format, age classification, grade classification, price, arrival date, publisher, product type, and quantity. You can apply any combination of refinements, such as the example below:

I started in the Fiction Category and selected General as the Subject. My business requires me to stock several stores, so I set the Quantity to 50+. Since I shop the website regularly, I just wanted to be shown product that came in within the Last 3 Months.

Another great feature is our Recommendations engine. Our recommendations are generated by tracking what retail consumers click on and purchase, all curated from multiple sources and ranked via our proprietary system. That’s right, you get to see what the retail consumer is actually interested in and purchasing—all in real-time. A proprietary algorithm compiles clicks, views, and purchases from various sources and intelligently ranks titles for recommendations. No one else in the industry provides such insightful information. Recommendations are peppered throughout the website on the homepage, shopping cart, title details page, and general browsing.

A very popular section on our website is the New Arrivals page. We receive hundreds of new titles throughout the day, and each day at 8:45 PM EST we upload all the new arrivals we received for that day, with the most recent titles appearing on the first pages. For each title we prominently display the date it arrived.

When generally browsing, you can sort the product by following:

  • Newest arrival (shown by default)
  • Title (A-Z and Z-A)
  • Publisher (A-Z and Z-A)
  • Author (A-Z and Z-A)
  • Price (Low to High and High to Low)

When browsing product on a page, our default sort order displays our newest arrivals first.

Lastly, you can modify the product browsing layout. It can be set to either Grid or List view. To change it, toggle the drop-down at the top right hand side of the page:

Both the Sort By and Layout Style features are located next to the page count display:

Creating an Order

Now that you know how to search for product, you can start building an order. We made it simple and quick to add product to your cart either from the book details page or directly from the browsing page. Simply enter in the quantity you wish to purchase and click on the Add to Cart button. It will automatically be added to your cart and you can continue browsing without interruption.

We also issue coupons from time to time, which you can get by subscribing to our newsletter. To apply a coupon to your cart, just enter it into the CODE box, along with adding the password into the PASSWORD box, and then click on the APPLY button for the discount to take effect. Be sure to read all terms and conditions for the coupon you are applying to your cart.

Wishlist & Favorites

If you can’t find the book you are looking for, you can add it to your Wishlist. We will then notify you via email when any title from your Wishlist is in stock. From there you can add it directly to your cart. To access your Wishlist, scroll to the bottom of the website and select Wishlist from the footer.

Here you can manage your Wishlist:

You can manage your Favorite products in a similar fashion. This is a very popular feature as it allows you to flag titles and organize them into lists so that you can add them to your shopping cart later.

To add a title to your Favorites, select the heart-shaped icon next to the Add to Cart button:

By default, when you add in a new item, it will place it into the General Favorites folder:

Use the Manage My Favorite Folders page to create, delete, and view folders, as well as add or remove titles to or from folders:

  1. I’d love to see thumbnails of book covers in the cart as I’m building my order, as I do when I review it just before submitting. Often I’m building an order over the course of a few days and often trying new titles, so this would be very helpful to me and I’m sure it would be to others.

  2. I would love to see an option to download or export a list of titles that I have in my favourites folder, with a link to the image and also the description.

I’m an e-commerce based business, and it takes too much time to individually get the info from each page for each book. I’m also a niche specialty, so I don’t want to refer my customers to your pages as I want to be able to build custom collections for them.

  3. Spot on with this write-up, I actually suppose this web site wants rather more consideration. I’ll most likely be again to read much more, thanks for that info.

  4. The ability to choose more than one category at a time would be nice (Children’s Fiction, Children’s Nonfiction, Tweens Fiction, and Tweens Nonfiction are 4 separate searches on the same subject), but your site and company are wonderful right now. Thanks for the advice on how to use Favorites; I’ve been using Wishlist for creating future orders and immediately saw my mistake and how Favorites will be perfectly for this!

    1. Hi Connie,
Thank you for the suggestion. We will speak with our web developers to see if this can be done. I did want to mention that for the example you made in your comment, we have created a “Kids” link that you can find on the menu bar at the top of the homepage. We have included all of those categories into that link because that is probably the most desired grouping of categories among our buyers. Hope that helps!
